Free pedal-powered cinema showing sci-fi classic FLASH GORDON Saturday 17th Sept, Peckham Rye Cafe
Continuing the Free Film Festival, a free pedal-powered film screening of the sci-fi cult classic Flash Gordon comes to Peckham Rye on Saturday 17 September, 8pm.
The event will go ahead whatever the weather - simply bring something to sit on (blankets or chairs) and whatever you need to stay warm and dry. The Cafe on the Rye will be open throughout the event for food and drink (including beer and wine).
Before the film there's a Dr Bike session from 6-8pm. Just bring along your bike to get it checked out by an expert mechanic for free. The Wheely Groovy bike-powered sound system will also be playing tracks from 7-8pm. Bring along your favourite tracks, on CD or vinyl, to hear them played by the Wheely Groovy DJs, while you provide the pedal power for your own tunes!
Flash Gordon (Dir Mike Hodges, 1980, PG, 111 mins), with its soundtrack by Queen, has become a cult classic since its release in 1980, with its stellar cast including Topol, Timothy Dalton, Brian Blessed, Suzanne Danielle and Max von Sydow as Flash's nemesis, Ming the Merciless.
Flash needs no introduction to his devotees. To those dedicated to his cult, this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see him powered by human energy. For first-timers, its a chance to enjoy a wonderful evening of film fun (suitable for the whole family).
